Belfast: Caleys Development Basement
Challenge
Situated in the shadow of Windsor Castle, and on the site of the famous Caley’s Department Store DAWSON-WAM were contracted to Elmer Construction to form a 1.5 storey basement for a new commercial development.
Solution
A contiguous piled wall some 230m in length was installed deep into the London Clays using DAWSON-WAM’s 28m Bauer Piling Rig. Piles were installed up to 0.3m from existing occupied buildings and raking props were installed to reduce deflections.
Result
Further to this DAWSON-WAM installed some 180no. bearing piles each with a capacity of 1600kN once the basement was excavated to level.
