Challenge
All three sections were cross country and included extensive road sections from A Class to country roads. A large number of road crossings populated the in fields sections.
Due to extensive environmental restrictions and planning constraints a 1km single shot HDD crossing of the Bann and Cusher Rivers, Newry Canal and the main Belfast to Dublin railway line was required. Twin 710 OD HPPE (626mm Internal Diameter) pipes were designed to meet flow and redundancy requirements. This 1km single shot HDD crossing was over 23m deep and the longest in Ireland.
HDD crossings also included the Blackwater River with Twin 630 OD HPPE pipes and the M1 Motorway with Twin 560 OD HPPE pipes. Pipe Jacking across major arterial routes such as the Moy to Armagh Road was also required.
