Specialist Projects

At Dawson-WAM, we thrive on complexity. For over 50 years we have delivered some of the UK and Ireland’s most technically challenging and high-profile projects, combining innovation, engineering excellence, and specialist expertise. Our ability to design and deliver bespoke solutions means clients turn to us when projects demand more than conventional methods.

Complex Ground Engineering

From deep basements in congested city centres to retaining structures adjacent to sensitive heritage assets, Dawson-WAM provides solutions that balance precision, safety, and programme certainty. Our advanced piling systems combined with our specialist civil engineering expertise allow us to provide a different approach to today’s ground engineering challenges.

Examples include:

  • Dawson-WAM supported Network Rail and Balfour Beatty on the emergency stabilisation of the Nuneham Viaduct, Oxfordshire. Working 24/7, our team installed CHS and sheet piles using specialist rigs to stabilise the failed abutment and embankment. Despite challenging ground conditions and restricted access, the works were completed ahead of schedule, helping to reopen this vital rail route less than 10 weeks after closure.
  • Working for the Skanska Costain STRABAG JV on HS2 Area West, Dawson-WAM installed over 300 micropiles to support the conveyor system carrying spoil from the tunnel boring machines. The works required innovative solutions in difficult terrain and alongside live Network Rail lines, using multiple piling techniques to achieve stability within the embankment.
  • Dawson-WAM delivered the £12M piling works package for Costain and National Highways, sheet piled retaining walls, gantry piles, complex temporary works and associated civils and structural steel works with performance recognised by Costain through Blue Exceptional Performance Awards.
  • Flood defence schemes delivered as a main contractor such as the £6.5M Shimna Flood Alleviation Scheme and £13.2M Campbeltown Flood Prevention Scheme
  • Water treatment works such as Duncrue WwTW Extension delivered as a main contractor (£21M & £10M schemes delivered some 25 year apart)

Temporary Works & Bespoke Solutions – Our in-house engineering and fabrication teams design and deliver temporary works structures, including propping systems, access platforms, and cofferdams. These allow us to support excavations, manage complex construction staging, and deliver solutions that keep projects safe, efficient, and on programme.

Why Choose Dawson-WAM for Specialist Projects?
